Networking........

Already have a Facebook account so I embedded a link to my recommended books of "Indian Authors" on our library website. Might as well let my Facebook friends see that I just don't hang around listlessly at the library but actually make a contribution!

Enjoyed exploring Digg - gosh! it has some random stuff in there and I guess, there lies the appeal. Preferred the layout and the colour scheme of Digg to Reditt, but the tellytubby like logo of Reddit is very cute. There are heaps of websites on StumbleUpon catering to all kinds of people and all kinds of interests. All the above sites are worth knowing about and recommending to patrons who might be seeking the weirdest of information or the computer geeks who spends endless time on them!

Registered with Newsvine - embedded it to my facebook account. Thought it would be good to catch some American action and gossip! Some articles/stories make very good reading and provide food for thought. Frankly there are some very good discussions going on.

On the whole it has been a very productive, exciting and fun exercise for me. I enjoyed the learning experience and discovering a whole new world of socializing stuff that I was unaware of. Some of the exercises have been so successful not just for me, but my family as well, that my family tree has now got 258 members!!
There's quite a bit that I can encourage customers and my Akozone children to use especially sites like My Heritage and Go Animate respectively.
I think Web 2.0 has been hugely successful and I guess you guys who have slaved on it, can pat yourselves on your back. Well done!

Getting Animated!

Doing Animoto was easy and straightforward but not exciting, as the fruits of labour was nothing to rave about. Go Animate proved to be very frustrating as the demo tape would not buffer quickly enough on the work computers, and so I set out to discover the whole process just by trial and error. Didn't have a decent theme and what I finally produced, got laughed at by my family. Will have another shot at it and embed something better.
I thought it would be great to get my Akozone kids on to Go Animate every time they came in without homework. It would be very creative, original and something they can copy on to a disc and take home for the family to view!

Bookjetty

http://www.bookjetty.com/people/enthublogger/books
Registered on Bookjetty and catalogued a few books, but didn't find it easy to follow. To make matters worse, either the site itself takes a while for it to come through each time you catalogue or the computer was slow. Embedding it on my blog didn't work - will give it a go again.

Had a nosy through LitLovers and I thought it was a handy site to know of, especially for folks interested in forming book clubs. LitBlog is well worth a read. Authors on the web is a cool site to check out authors' blogs and the latest news from the world of books.Might be good to recommend it to people in the book club or patrons who are techno savvy.

Genealogy

Setting up the family tree was great fun and though I started it as an exercise, my husband has run away with it. He was obsessed with it all weekend and has added heaps of info to it. The disappointing bit was that I set it up on My Heritage and found no way to embed it onto my blog - had to set up Geni just to complete the exercise.
I would definitely recommend this to friends and customers, who I believe will be just as delighted as me, as its quite simple to set up and navigate. Besides when you add people's email addresses, the site automatically shoots out emails to them and gives them a chance to add information and expand it themselves. Good fun!

Ready to play!

Yessssss......... it's good to be back! I am one of those who will not explore any techno stuff on my own- frankly, quite wary of it all. So thanks folks, for organising this once again - just the kind of nudge I need!
Have gone through the blogs on the library website and its a pity they have failed to initiate any customer comments for some reason. Maybe they need a nudge too!
I do see how blogging could be used in social circles especially if you are part of a group and this is applicable to the libraries too. We are at a stage when even libraries need to be marketed and I personally think blogging is a great marketing tool. Hail Blogging!!

Finally!!!

Finally, its happened to me and I just cannot believe it......... (twisting the lyrics of a song)! Its with mixed feelings that I am signing my last post. I am relieved that's its all done and also have this sense of sadness that the excitement of blogging is over. I certainly had a few ups and downs, hated a few "things" and thoroughly enjoyed others. This whole exercise was a huge learning curve - I know I wouldn't have done it on my own . So a beeeg thanks to all involved in setting this up and my team, who helped and encouraged me from time to time.
I feel empowered and love showing off among my friends, who haven't a clue what I am talking about and my worse half, who thinks he is the most knowledgeable in the family!!
Awww.....what do I do now? I know! I'll ask my manager to roster regular "Tech" time for the next one month just so that I can take the time to read other's blogs!!
Bye now!

Net-Library

I thought the Net Library was quite good. We have a good number of self-help/motivational books and non-fiction mainly. We seem to have books on a wide range of topics. Had heard so much about it but was able to check them out only now. I might want to read "Best things ever said in the dark". I think it's clever to write on such a topic!
