Technorati

http://www.technorati.com/people/technorati/Nothermallu

Technorati seemed quite an interesting site so I claimed my blog. The keyword search for "Learning 2.0", on blog posts, directory and tags led to different results and exploring popular blog, searches and tags brought up 100 results each time.

Went through Del.icio.us but didn't think it was user friendly. I did try to register and gave up when it asked for a number or symbol along with 6 letters or more, for a password! Why do they have to make things difficult? Its bad enough trying to figure out a new password every month for the intra-net service!! The beginner's guide looked awful too - an overload of information.

Also read the perspectives on Library 2.0 - they made good reading! I think that the image we Librarians portray to the world has changed considerably from the stereotypical bun and glasses, frumpy old ladies. But I still don’t think we’ve reached a stage where we are perceived as being techno savvy or keeping up with other professions or industries. With the changing times, it won’t be too far away when we’ll be required to help customers at the libraries with blogging and everything else that goes with it. So, actually, this whole exercise is really in preparation for that. There were times when I could have pulled my hair out in frustration and then be delighted with the smallest of my achievements, when I would be so addicted that I would happily forego some of my less important chores on the roster, when I would be depressed at not being marked “genius”. Needless to say, I went through a whole gamut of emotions! But the light at the end of the tunnel (enlightenment???)has made it a most enjoyable journey!!

Week:5 Playtime!!

Enjoyed goofing around with online image generator and managed to steal this one! Naughty I know, but I wasn't willing to pay $700 for a neon sign that I wasn't actually going to use!! It took a few attempts though, to get it on the blog.

Also set up my own search engine on Rollyo - that was a fun exercise too. Didn't realize personalizing could give you such a high! I think its a very handy tool, especially at the Akozone Homework Centre where we have frequently asked questions and topics. I could open up my own search engine to look up things in a jiffy!

Signed up and added a few books to My Library on Library Thing but didn't think much of it. I mean I love books and enjoy reading but I really don't see myself spending time cataloguing even if it is on my own online library! Library Thing blog looked good with people's contributions and I do appreciate how passionate people are about it, but i guess it's just not my "thing".

Week-4: RSS & Bloglines

http://www.bloglines.com/public/menonsnz

Set up my Blogline account and added a couple of feeds like iTunes and National Geographic. I did follow the guidelines but managed to royally muddle myself and it took sometime before I could figure it all out. Felt a sense of achievement after having done that!! Also checked out blogs like Librarian's Internet Index and The Shifted Librarian - wasn't too interested in them.

Regarding the RSS feeds, me feels it is a superb and handy tool. Can't believe I can actually get rid of all the annoying pop-up ads and surf my fav web sites and pages all from one place! I checked out Syndic8 and thought it looked pretty ugly and had too much of information for me to process. Topixnet was simpler, hence more attractive and easier to manouver.

Posting Pics!

Thought I'd brighten my blog with a few pictures. Some are ancient but have good memories attached to them.

Techno Conquests

Have been using Skype for a while now. Its easy and free to call friends who are already on Skype. Most of the time the line is pretty clear and one can talk for hours! The only problem is that it interferes with MSN Messenger and makes it inactive. Plan to learn how to use the MP3 and the IPod from my son, over the weekend. At the moment they all seem the same - basically they play music!! Might come back on Monday with a halo round my head - I shall be enlightened!!!!

Checked out the Flikr mashups and found Flickr Colr Pickr real cool - loved the way it brought up beautiful pictures in the colour we clicked. I would have loved to create my own Librarian Trading Card if I wasn't short of time. Some of them were neat looking and quite clever. Maybe if I finish all the Learning 2.0 exercises well ahead I will go back and try it.

I Flickrd!!

Signed up with Flickr and explored the site. There are some gorgeous pictures out there and mine look so boring in comparison. Just made me think about the talent and effort that goes into it. Most of the time we just want to capture a moment and tend to do it without much thought. Maybe I will shoot some nice ones ( will try!) and then upload them.
